About Mario de Sa

I'm a Portuguese-South African musician who's been making music for 25+ years. I don't stick to one genre because that sounds boring, so you'll find rock, pop, acoustic, metal, and whatever else I felt like making in my catalog.

Started with major labels (Universal Music, back when that mattered). Learned that creative freedom is more valuable than paychecks. Now I release everything independently from my studio in Portugal.

I stream live music sessions on Twitch because I like the direct connection with people. No algorithm deciding who sees what. Just live music, requests, conversation, and the occasional technical difficulty.

The music examines truth, relationships, human nature—all the fun stuff. Some of it's heavy enough to classify as metal. Some of it's acoustic ballads. Some of it's pop with hooks I couldn't resist. I'm not interested in 'staying in my lane' because lanes are for highways, not art.

If you want music that doesn't follow trends, you're in the right place. If you want everything to sound the same, Spotify has curated playlists for that.

The Short Version

Grew up in apartheid South Africa. Moved to Portugal at 15 under circumstances I won't bore you with here. Learned guitar from a teacher who gave lessons out of her front room. Played in bands for years — some good, some terrible, one that signed with Universal Music.

Spent a decade watching the music industry collapse in real time, then spent another decade doing other things to keep the lights on. Came back to music because there was nothing else worth coming back to.

Now I make everything from my studio in Portugal, with nobody telling me what it should sound like or who it's for. 4 albums on major labels. 1000+ concerts. 25+ years. Still figuring it out.

That's it. The music says the rest.

Music that heals. Music that connects. Music that matters.
